Rumah Tempe Srikandi Geneng (RTSG), one of MYTEMPE members, visited the Center for Tempe Study (PST), Satya Wacana Christian University, Salatiga, Central Java on February 20, 2019. Head of PST as well as the Dean of Biology Faculty, Ms. Lusiawati Dewi, known as Ibu Lusi to many of her students and university colleagues, welcomed the RTSG visit, in her office. Ibu Lusi, with strong enthusiasm, shared with RTSG her passion to promote tempe as the most affordable nutritious food in Indonesia by conducting research activities that focus on product development and new market segment penetration.

Tempe Ikan or fish tempe (TeKan) is her most successful tempe innovation in terms of academic recognition and commercialization. Developed in 2013, the making of TeKan that mixes dried tilapia flour and soybeans in fermentation process has been patented (Patent No. IDP 000051029) in 2015. TeKan also recently receives recognition as one of 110 innovations in 2018 from Business Innovation Center Indonesia

With regard to business collaboration to scale up the production of TeKan, Ibu Lusi has developed a scheme in which she will give a license to use TeKan fermentation technology and supply Tilapia flour to business partner and/or investors. She is also seeking for investors who are interested to establish Tilapia flour production facility. MYTEMPE is hopeful the meeting between RTSG and TeKan will result in mutual business partnership that can help RTSG increase tempe sales volume through product development. As friends of MYTEMPE can check in the website, RTSG has been in operation for more than a year producing fresh tempe and tempe chips of “ECHO SARI”. We encourage friends of MYTEMPE, especially who live in Yogyakarta and Klaten district to try “ECHO SARI”. Its tempe chips is so tasty and crispy.
